Fabulous french toast recipe details
- Ingredients
- 5 eggs
- 2/3 cup half & half
- 1/3 cup Triple Sec or other liqueur
- 2 Tablespoons sugar
- grated zest of orange
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- French bread, day-old croissants, or Challah bread
Beat eggs, half & half, liqueur, sugar, orange and cinnamon together in bowl. Slice croissants in half or, if using French bread, slice into 1-inch slices. Pour egg mixture into shallow jelly roll pan and place bread slices/croissants in pan, turning to coat both sides. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
To serve, melt butter on griddle or frying pan, and fry until golden on both sides. Sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar and serve with maple syrup with pecans added. In summer, this is very nice topped with fresh, sliced, sugared peaches and a dab of sour cream or yogurt. Other fruit may be used, such as strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries.
To freeze, wrap uncooked soaked bread slices in freezer wrap. Defrost overnight in the refrigerator. Wonderful!
