Decadent bread recipe details
- Ingredients
- 4 slices French bread, sliced 1 inch thick
- 4 eggs
- 8 teaspoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1-1/2 cups milk
- 8 teaspoons melted butter
- Cinnamon
- Blueberries or jam of any sort for topping
- Powdered sugar
This always impresses guests, and they ask for the recipe when they are through.
Place 1 slice of bread in each of 4 greased individual-size casseroles. Mix eggs, sugar, vanilla, milk, and melted butter and pour over bread slices. (The bread may not soak up the liquid, but that is as it should be.) Sprinkle with cinnamon and put three blueberries or a small amount of jam in the center of each piece for decoration. Bake in 350-degree oven for 40 minutes until puffed and lightly browned. Remove from oven, dust with powdered sugar, and serve immediately. (They collapse if they have to wait around.) Recipe may be easily divided or multiplied.
This can be put together well ahead of time, but mine usually only soak in the egg mixture for ten minutes or so before baking, and they do fine.
