Cowboy coffee cake recipe details
- Ingredients:
- 2-1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup sour milk*
- 2 well beaten eggs
Grease and flour two 8-inch round pans. Line bottoms with wax paper. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Combine flour, salt, sugar, and shortening together with pastry blender. When blended, take out 1/2 cup of crumbs and reserve. To remaining crumbs add baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg; mix well. Then add milk and eggs. Stir together. Pour into prepared pans. Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top. Bake 20 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Note: *To make sour milk, add 1 Tablespoon lemon juice to 1 cup of milk.
