Cheese bread recipe details
Ingredients
750 g | wholewheat flour |
2 tsp | salt |
75 g | bran cereal, crushed |
15 g | margarine |
100 g | hard cheese, grated |
15 g | instant dried yeast |
5 tsp | dried mace |
2 tsp | cumin seeds |
450 ml | tepid water |
oil, for brushing |
Instructions
Mix the flour, salt and crushed cereal in a bowl. Rub in the margarine until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the cheese, yeast, mace and cumin seeds, and gradually pour in the water, mixing it all the time. Use just enough water to give a firm and not sticky dough.Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board and knead it with polythene and set it aside in a warm place to rise for about 45 minutes. Knead the dough for 1 minute.
Heat the oven to 220°C.
Lightly brush 2 450 g loaf tins with oil. Divide the dough into 2 equal pieces and press each one into a loaf tin, working it well into the corners.
Bake the loaves in the oven for 5 minutes, and then reduce the heat to 220°C. Continue baking for a further 30 – 35 minutes, until the loaves sound hollow when tapped on the undersides.
Leave the loaves to slightly cool in the tins, and then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool.
