Cheese and potato plait recipe details
Ingredients
butter to grease the tray | |
675 g | strong white flour, plus extra for dusting |
175 g | floury potatoes, diced |
14 g | dried yeast, two 7 g sachets easy-blend dried yeast |
450 ml | vegetable stock |
2 | garlic cloves, crushed |
2 tbsp | rosemary, freshly chopped |
115 g | Gruyere cheese, grated |
1 tbsp | vegetable oil |
1 tbsp | salt |
Instructions
Lightly grease and flour a baking tray.Cook the potatoes until soft. Drain well, then mash.
Transfer the mash into a large bowl and stir in the yeast, flour and vegetable stock. Add garlic, rosemary and 90 g of the Gruyère cheese and knead until well combined. Pour in the oil in a hollow of the dough and knead the dough again until smooth and elastic. Cover the bowl and let the dough rest for at least 1 hour until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough, knead again, then evenly divide the dough into 3 parts and form them to strips. Press one end of the strips firmly together and braid the strands to form a plait. Press the ends together and fold under the loaf. Place the loaf on the prepared baking tray, cover and allow the dough to rise for a further 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 190°C/ 375°F/ Gas Mark 5.
Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top of the plait and bake in the preheated oven for approximately 40 minutes.
Serve cold or while it is still warm.
