Catfish gumbo recipe details
Ingredients1. Beef bouillon (2cubes)
2. catfish fillets, cut into 1 inch pieces (1 pound)
3. chopped celery (1/2c)
4. chopped onion (1/2c)
5. vegetable oil (1/4c)
6. chopped green bell pepper (1/2c)
7. chopped garlic (1clove)
8. bay leaf (1)
9. red pepper flakes (1/4tsp)
10. frozen okra (1package about 10 ounce)
11. diced tomatoes (2cans about 8 ounce)
12. water (2c)
13. hot pepper sauce (1/8tsp)
14. dried thyme (1/4tsp)
15. salt (1tsp)
16. hot cooked rice (1 1/2c)
Method of preparation
1. Take a pot of 3 quarts, add 2 cups of water in it and keep it to boil. Then add bouillon cubes in water and let them to dissolve properly.
2. Take a frying pan of medium size, place it over heat. Add vegetable oil in the pan and heat it and then cook onion, green bell pepper, celery and garlic in the oil until they get soft.
3. Now add these cooked vegetables with okra, tomatoes into the boiling water of pot and then season the vegetables with salt, bay leaf, thymes, red pepper flakes and hot pepper sauce.
4. Turn down the heat to low, cover the pot and keep it to simmer for about 30 minutes. Now add catfish in the pot, cover it and keep it to simmer for about 15 minutes until the fish becomes soft and flaky. When the catfish gumbo gets ready then serve it over cooked rice.
