Blackberry habanero bbq sauce recipe details
This sweet, hot, and fruity barbecue sauce is great on pork and chicken dishes, and simply amazing on shrimp. Simmering whole habanero peppers in the sauce gives you some of the flavor without the searing heat. If you want, puree the habaneros into the sauce, then stand back!

Ingredients
Makes: 3 quarts- Sauce
- 2 cups blackberry jelly
- 1 (16 ounce) bag frozen blackberries
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 (32 ounce) bottle ketchup
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 teaspoons liquid smoke
- 1 teaspoon your favorite hot sauce
- 1/2 cup frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
- Seasonings
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground dried ginger
- 2 tablespoons sea salt
- 1 tablespoons chipotle pepper powder
- 1 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon granulated garlic
- 2 tablespoons bourbon whiskey
- 3 whole habanero peppers, stems removed
Preparation method
Prep: 30 mins1. Combine the sauce ingredients in a large pot, and slowly bring to a simmer over medium-high heat.
2. While the sauce is heating, combine the sugar and seasoning ingredients except for the habanero peppers in a bowl until evenly blended. Stir the sugar mixture into the sauce.
3. Bring to a simmer, stirring frequently, and cook 10 minutes. Add the whole habanero peppers, and cook 20 minutes more.
4. Remove the habanero peppers and discard. Carefully puree the sauce either with an immersion blender, or in a blender. If you leave the habaneros in, prepare yourself for one spicy sauce!
