Ingredients

600 g beef, (shin or chuck), cubed
500 g sauerkraut
1 kg potatoes, peeled and cut in thin slices
3 large onions, peeled and cut in thin slices
½ l sour cream
1 clove(s) garlic, minced
8  juniper berries, crushed
salt and pepper
paprika powder
1 tbsp butter

Instructions

In a large saucepan, melt the butter. Layer the potatoes, sauerkraut, meat and onions, starting and finishing with potatoes. Season each layer with salt, pepper and paprika powder. Add garlic and juniper berries. Pour over the sour cream.

Cover and place into a bain-marie. Transfer into the oven and stew at 150° for at least 3 hours or until the beef is very tender.
