Beef and spinach pastry bake recipe details
Ingredients
1 kg | minced beef |
1 medium | onion, chopped |
2 clove(s) | garlic, minced |
350 ml | canned chopped tomatoes plus juice |
80 ml | dry white wine |
2 tsp | oregano |
250 g | mozzarella cheese, grated |
300 g | spinach, fresh or frozen, thawed |
20 g | breadcrumbs |
90 g | Parmesan cheese, grated |
50 g | butter, melted |
2 medium | eggs, beaten |
250 g | ricotta cheese |

Instructions
Brown beef with onion in olive oil with 1 garlic clove. Drain.Add canned tomatoes sauce, wine, oregano and pepper, stirring to combine; simmer 5 minutes. Stir in bread crumbs and half of the Parmesan cheese. Set beef mixture aside.
Sauté remaining garlic clove in oil and add spinach. Cover and cook for 5 minutes over medium heat.
Remove from heat and add eggs, ricotta and mozzarella and remaining Parmesan cheese; mix well.
Line a springform with phyllo pastry, overlapping edges. Spoon in the beef mixture and press lightly. Top with spinach mixture. Fold phyllo edges over top and brush with melted butter.
Preheat oven to 180°C.
Bake for 30 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from oven and let stand for 20 minutes.
Remove side of pan and cut into wedges to serve.
