This is a summertime favorite. Traditionally a southern dish, this is a good recipe for picnics or pot luck lunches. This particular recipe is easy to make and takes little time to prepare.
Ready in: 10 hours 20 mins

Ingredients

Serves: 24
  • 2 small red onions
  • 1 can anchovies
  • 4 pounds cubed beef, pork or combination
  • 1/2 cup chili powder
  • 12 ounces tomato paste
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons dry mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Preparation method

Prep: 20 mins | Cook: 10 hours

1. Liquefy onions and anchovies in a food processor or blender. Thoroughly mix all ingredients in a slow cooker and cook for 9 hours on lowest setting. When done, shred meat with two forks or an electric hand mixer. Cook at least one more hour and serve on hamburger buns.
