Baked alaska with strawberries recipe details
Ingredients
500 g | fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered |
1 liter(s) | vanilla ice cream |
6 | egg whites |
3 tbsp | sugar |
1 | sponge cake |
Instructions
Line an ovenproof serving plate with slices of sponge cake. Divide the strawberries on the cake. Cut the vanilla ice cream into thick slices and place on top of the strawberries.Whisk the egg whites with the sugar until very stiff and with a palette knife, spread the meringue in waves over the ice cream, making sure all is covered and the meringue seals the sponge cake edges. Place into the freezer for at least an hour.
To serve, preheat the oven to 220°C. Transfer the Alaska straight from the freezer into the oven. Bake for 3-4 minutes until the meringue is just starting to get brown peaks. Serve immediately.
