Bacon wrapped bratwurst with beer braised cabbage recipe details
Even though this recipe says it serves four, you’ll want to at least double it to get you through the whole game – maybe even triple it. Get enough beer – both for cooking and drinking. Don’t get the wimpy kind, get the real stuff.
Ready in: 1 hour 15 mins
Ingredients
Serves: 4- 4 slices bacon
- 4 bratwurst
- 2 cups finely shredded red or green cabbage
- 1 (12 oz) can or bottle beer
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 4 hot dog or bratwurst buns, split and buttered
Preparation method
Prep: 15 mins | Cook: 1 hour1. Partially cook bacon until it is wilted, but not crisp. Wrap a slice of bacon around each bratwurst (secure with toothpick) and grill on outdoor grill or indoor grill pan over medium low heat, turning frequently until cooked through and bacon is crispy.
2. Meanwhile, in large sauce pan add cabbage, beer, mustard seeds and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat until all liquid is absorbed and cabbage is very tender.
3. Grill buns until nicely toasted. Serve brats on grilled buns, topped with cabbage. Add mustard or horseradish if desired.Alternate method
If serving outdoors, no utensils needed – just kind of hunch over to avoid dripping on clothing. If eating indoors, you’ll need napkins.
