Ingredients
450 g porridge oats |
8 tbsp flour, heaped |
8 tbsp Demerara sugar, heaped |
1 tsp ground allspice |
1 tsp salt |
2 tsp baking powder |
2 tsp ground ginger |
450 g black treacle |
230 g butter |
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda |
1 small egg, beaten |
100 ml milk, warm |
Instructions
Set the oven to 180°C.Grease and line a deep roasting tin (25*35cm). In a bowl, place all the dry ingredients. In a small saucepan, gently heat the treacle and the butter until melted and stir the mixture into the bowl. Add the egg and the milk and stir until well combined.
Transfer the mixture into the tin and bake for 1-1.5 hours. Take out of the oven and leave to stand in the tin for 30 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack.
Allow to stand for 2 days, then cut the cake into squares and serve.
