Ingredients

125 g unsalted butter, softened
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp drinking chocolate
1 tbsp golden syrup
2 tbsp raisins
250 g rich tea or digestive biscuits
150 g good quality milk chocolate

Instructions

Melt the butter, sugar and syrup in a pan. Add the raisins and drinking chocolate and bring to a boil. Allow to boil for 2-3 minutes.

Crush the biscuits in a blender and mix into the hot chocolate mixture.

Press into a parchment lined 8×11 inch, 20x28cm shallow baking tin. Push the mixture down well.

Melt the chocolate in a bowl over hot water or in a microwave and spread it over the top.

Leave to set in a cool place and then cut into 15 or 24 pieces with a sharp knife. Store in an airtight tin.

About the recipe:
This recipe was brought from India by British soldiers who served there in the days of the Raj. It derives from a term for a snack offered as a courtesy to guests.
