Royal sweet short pastry recipe details
Ingredients
450 g | plain flour |
1 tsp | salt |
45 g | hard vegetable margarine |
1 tsp | vinegar |
1 large | egg |
2 tbsp | cold water |
Instructions
Sufficient for 2, 9-inch, 22cm pie bases.Preheat oven to Gas Mark 6, 200°C, 400°F.
Sift flour and salt into bowl. Add margarine and blend with a hand mixer until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add the vinegar and egg and blend together. Add a tablespoon of water. If the pastry does not hold together, add a second tablespoon of water. You should not need any more.
Divide the pastry and roll out each portion to fit the base and sides of a 9-inch pie dish. Carry to tin on the rolling pin and place in position. Pat into corners or flutes and prick all over with a fork. Repeat for the other portion.
Bake for 15-17 minutes until light golden brown.
