- 1-1/4 cup sugar (divided)
- 1 orange
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 2 cups cake flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sour milk
- 1 cup raisins
Combine 1/4 cup sugar and juice from the orange, stir until dissolved, set aside. Cream 1 cup sugar with shortening. Add eggs. Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add alternately with milk to first mixture. Add raisins which have been ground with orange rind. Mix until well-blended. Pour into a well-oiled pan. Bake at 375 degrees about 45 minutes. Pour orange juice and sugar mix over the cake before removing from the pan.
