strawberry cake recipe details
This strawberry angel food cake is easy to make. It has a homemade strawberry sauce and is topped with a whipped cream cheese frosting.
Ready in: 1 hour 30 mins
Ingredients
Serves: 15- 6 cups whole strawberries, stemmed
- 1 cup sugar
- ¾ cup cornstarch
- 2 cups cream cheese frosting (any kind)
- 1 1/2 cups whipped cream
- 1 (20 ounce) box angel food cake mix
- 1 1/4 cup cold water
Preparation method
Prep: 20 mins | Cook: 40 mins | Extra time: 30 mins, cooling1. Preheat oven to temperature indicated on cake mix box. Coat a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Put 4 cups of strawberries, sugar, and cornstarch into a blender. Puree.
3. In a medium saucepan, heat the strawberry mixture on medium heat. Whisking constantly, bring to a slow boil.
4. Boil 3 minutes (still stirring), then remove from heat. If the mixture doesn’t seem thick enough towards the end, just add a little more corn starch.
5. Let sit, cooling; mixture will thicken as it sits. When cooled, refrigerate.
6. Fold together whipped cream and cream cheese frosting in a mixing bowl. Refrigerate, set aside.
7. Follow the instructions to make the cake mix, using the water, and pour it into the prepared baking dish.
8. Pour 1/2 of the cooled strawberry mixture into a ziplock baggie and cut a small corner off. Drizzle it over the raw cake batter, and don’t be afraid to add it all.
9. Using a knife, drag the sauce through the batter, making a ribbon pattern.
10. Bake cake as instructed on packaging, about 30 minutes.
11. After the cake cools, top with the whipped cream cheese frosting. Dice the remaining 2 cups of strawberries and sprinkle over top.
12. Drizzle strawberry sauce liberally over the strawberries.
13. You’re done!
