- Ingredients
- 4 cored Granny Smith apples
- 1/4 to 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 3 Tablespoons butter
- currants and finely ground nuts
- Watkins Apple Bake Spiceor combo of cinnamon and allspice
- 1/3 cup bourbon
- 1/3 cup water
Remove a strip around each apple and place in an 8- or 9-inch baking dish. Fill each hole with brown sugar and press down to pack. Add a teaspoon of butter; press down. Add a few currants and ground nuts. Add brown sugar to cover opening and sprinkle with spice. Add to dish 1/4 to 1/3 cup brown sugar (or to taste) and 3 Tablespoons butter. Pour in 1/3 cup each of water and bourbon. Bake in a 375-degree oven for 1 hour or until apples are soft when pierced with a toothpick. Baste every 15 minutes. Serve apples warm in footed dishes with some of the sauce. Pass cream pitcher or whipped cream as desired.
