1 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup shortening
1 cup canned pumpkin
1/4 cup milk
2 cups flour
2 eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cloves
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
1/2 cup raisins


Cream together brown sugar and shortening. Beat in eggs. Add canned pumpkin and milk. Mix. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, and cloves. Add flour mixture to pumpkin mixture. Mix. Stir in nuts and/or raisins. Place in greased loaf pan. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for 55 to 60 minutes. Cool ten minutes, then remove from pan and cool on rack. May be frozen.
