Ingredients
Serves: 10- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 yellow onion, chopped
- 4 pounds coarse-ground beef
- 3 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup beef broth
Preparation method
Prep: 30 mins | Cook: 9 hours1. Heat olive oil in the largest skillet you can find. Add onion and cook for about 10 minutes, until onion is translucent; stir in the ground beef and cook until browned, another 20 minutes. (If you don’t have a large enough skillet, brown the beef in batches.) Drain well and transfer to a 6-quart slow cooker.
2. Add chili powder, cumin and salt to meat and mix in completely. Then add tomatoes, crushed tomatoes and ½ can of broth (place remainder in refrigerator). Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours.Alternate Method
Cook on HIGH for 4 hours.
