- Ingredients
- 1 cup molasses
- 2-1/2 cups boiling water
- 1 Tablespoon baking soda
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 16 ounces light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup oil
Similar to the pie – a Penna. Dutch favorite and so easy to make.
Preheat oven at 325 degrees
In a large bowl mix the molasses, boiling water and soda. In a separate bowl blend the flour, brown sugar and oil. Reserve 4 cups for topping. Set aside. Mix remaining dry ingredients with the liquid. Pour into a lightly sprayed 9 x 13 inch pan and top with crumbs (Have faith, it will be soupy but the finished cake is wonderful). Bake in a 325 oven for 40-50 minutes.
