Potato gratin recipe details
Ingredients
750 g | potatoes, peeled, washed and finely sliced |
1 clove(s) | garlic |
vegetable oil | |
salt and pepper, to taste
freshly ground nutmeg, to taste
250 g | whipping cream |
50 g | butter, in flakes |
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 200°C (or 180°C, fan assisted).Peel the garlic and rub all over a large shallow ovenproof dish. Then brush the oil around the dish. Now put the potatoes in layers in the dish, very lightly seasoning each layer with salt, pepper and nutmeg. To finish, pour the cream over the potatoes distributing it evenly, followed by the flakes of butter on top.
Bake for 50-60 minutes or until the potatoes are done and the gratin is golden brown.
For me this is the ultimate gratin: no cheese, no onions, or anything else is added. You’ll find the result very mouth-watering and delicious.
