Potato gratin is a classic and indulgent dish that features layers of thinly sliced potatoes baked in a creamy, cheesy sauce. This recipe takes the gratin to the next level by incorporating a flavorful blend of herbs and spices. The result is a rich and comforting side dish that pairs perfectly with roasted meats or can be enjoyed on its own.

Ingredients

750 g potatoes, peeled, washed and finely sliced
1 clove(s) garlic
vegetable oil
salt and pepper, to taste
freshly ground nutmeg, to taste
250 g whipping cream
50 g butter, in flakes

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 200°C (or 180°C, fan assisted).

Peel the garlic and rub all over a large shallow ovenproof dish. Then brush the oil around the dish. Now put the potatoes in layers in the dish, very lightly seasoning each layer with salt, pepper and nutmeg. To finish, pour the cream over the potatoes distributing it evenly, followed by the flakes of butter on top.

Bake for 50-60 minutes or until the potatoes are done and the gratin is golden brown.

For me this is the ultimate gratin: no cheese, no onions, or anything else is added. You’ll find the result very mouth-watering and delicious.
