Appetizers, army-style. Adapted from the 1910 Manual for Army Cooks.
Ready in: 40 mins
Ingredients
Serves: 6- 2 pounds link sausage
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 tablespoons chilled lard or butter
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
Preparation method
Prep: 20 mins | Cook: 20 mins1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a bowl, whisk the flour and salt together. Cut the lard into the mixture with two knives or a pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse meal, then add a sprinkle of water until dough comes together.
3. Roll out dough as if for pie crust, about 1/8-inch thick. Wrap each sausage link in the pastry dough and seal. Place on baking sheet.
4. In a small bowl, whisk the egg and 1 teaspoon water together. Brush over each wrapped link of sausage.
5. Bake for 20 minutes, or until crust is a light brown.
