Open faced apple pie recipe details
Most apple pies are found with lattice toppings, but this doesn’t allow your ice cream or whipped topping to seep through, so I devised a pie that would allow this to occur.
Ready in: 1 hour
Ingredients
Serves: 8- 3 pounds Gala apples
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1/4 cup margarine or butter, or as needed
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 shot amaretto (optional)
- 1 pie crust
- 1 egg
Preparation method
Prep: 30 mins | Cook: 30 mins1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Skin, core, and cut apples into eighths. Set apple pieces in water with lime juice to prevent browning.
3. In a saucepan, melt margarine or butter. Add brown and white sugars and stir until dissolved. Drain and dry the apples and add to the saucepan. Cook until the apples are just fork tender.
4. Take apples off stove and add to a bowl with amaretto.
5. Place into pie crust. Beat the egg with 1 teaspoon water, and brush the edges of the pie crust with egg wash.
6. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 30 minutes.
