Morning b&b saver recipe details
- Ingredients:
- 16 slices white bread, with crusts removed
- Slices of Canadian back bacon or ham
- 6 slices of sharp cheddar cheese
- 6 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/4 cup minced onion
- 1/4 cup green pepper, finely chopped
- 1 to 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 3 cups whole milk
- Dash of red pepper sauce (Tabasco)
- 1/4 pound butter
- Special Kcereal or crushed corn flakes
This is a superb Bed and Breakfast recipe because it can be made the day before and popped in the oven the morning it’s to be served. B&B guests often request this one because it’s so different… and quite spicy.
In a 9 x 9-inch buttered glass baking dish, put 8 pieces of bread. Add pieces to cover dish entirely. Cover bread with slices of back bacon, sliced thin. Lay slices of cheddar cheese on top of bacon and then cover with slices of bread to make it like a sandwich.
In a bowl, beat eggs, salt, and pepper. To the egg mixture add dry mustard, onion, green pepper, Worcestershire sauce, milk and Tabasco. Pour over the sandwiches, cover, and let stand in the refrigerator overnight.
In the morning, spread the Special Kcereal or crushed corn flakes over the top and pour melted butter over the top. Bake, uncovered, for 1 hour at 350 degrees. Let sit 10 minutes before serving. Serve with fresh cut-up fruit and salsa.
Serves: 6 hungry Bed and Breakfast guests.
