Montecados spanish cookies recipe details
Ingredients1. All purpose flour (5c)
2. melted shortening (2 1/3c)
3. blanched almonds (72)
4. ground cinnamon (1/4tsp)
5. white sugar (1 1/4c)
6. anise extract (1/2 ounce)
Method of preparation
1. First heat the oven to 250 degrees F or 120 degrees C. Take a bowl, mix flour, cinnamon and sugar in it. Then add melted shortening in it and beat the mixture until it gets mixed well. Mix anise in it and then knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth.
2. Take an ungreased cookie sheet. Roll dough into 1 inch balls and place them on the sheet about 2 inches apart. Then place a blanched almond on the center of each cookie and then press it slightly.
3. Now place the sheet in oven and bake the cookies at 250 degrees F for about 30 minutes until the cookies get pale in color. Take out the sheet from oven and keep the cookies to cool on sheet for about 30 minutes and then store them in a container.
Makes about 72 cookies
