Lasagna americana recipe details
My wife doesn’t like traditional lasagna. So I decided to make a new one without the ingredients she didn’t like, and it was a hit. This tasty dish will have everyone asking for the recipe. My lasagna will even please those who normally don’t like traditional lasagna.
Ready in: 1 hour 45 mins
Ingredients
Serves: 12- 1 (9 ounce) box uncooked lasagna noodles
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 2 teaspoons seasoning salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 small green pepper, diced
- 1 (32 ounce) jar marinara sauce
- 2 (16 ounce) packages shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 (16 ounce) packages sliced smoked provolone cheese
Preparation method
Prep: 25 mins | Cook: 1 hour 10 mins | Extra time: 10 mins, cooling1. Bring large pot of salted water to boil and follow directions on box to cook lasagna noodles, about 10 minutes. Drain the noodles and rinse. On aluminum foil, lay the cooked noodles out side by side.
2. Meanwhile, in a large deep skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. While beef is cooking, sprinkle seasoning salt and garlic powder over meat and stir to mix.
3. When meat is almost done, after about 10 minutes, add onions and peppers so their flavors meld into the meat. When the meat is no longer pink in the middle and onions are beginning to turn translucent, strain the meat mixture in a colander to get rid of the excess liquid. Do not rinse.
4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and coat a 14.5×10.5-inch extra-large baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
5. Return meat to skillet and add the marinara sauce. Simmer on low until the sauce is bubbling, about 10 minutes.
6. Scoop a thin layer of sauce into bottom of prepared baking pan. Place a layer of noodles over sauce.
7. Sprinkle a layer of mozzarella, then add a layer of provolone, then a little sauce on top of the cheeses. Add the next layer of noodles, cover with sauce, top with layer of provolone then with mozzarella.
8. Add next layer of noodles. Sprinkle remaining cheese and add sauce on top. Place final layer of noodles on top and cover with rest of sauce.
9. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour. In the final 10 minutes, remove foil to allow sauce on top to dry out a little. Allow to cool about 10 minutes before serving.Serving Suggestion
Serve with garlic bread and a salad to make a complete meal.
