Kentish apple and cheese pie recipe details
Ingredients
170 g | shortcrust pastry |
650 g | cooking apples, peeled, cored and thickly sliced |
3 tbsp | granulated sugar, heaped, you may need more |
3 | cloves |
1 pinch(es) | freshly grated nutmeg |
4 slice(s) | farmhouse cheddar |
some | milk |
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 220°C.Butter a 20cm (approx.) pie dish. Layer half of the apple slices into the dish. Sprinkle with half of the sugar. Layer with the remaining apples. Push in between the cloves. Sprinkle with the remaining sugar and a pinch of nutmeg and drizzle over a dash of water. Layer the cheese on top.
On a slightly floured surface, roll out the pastry, same size as the dish, then cover the dish with the pastry. Brush with milk to glaze. Transfer into the oven and bake for 40-45 minutes.
