Ingredients
Serves: 8-
For crust:
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup water
- 2/3 cup shortening For filling:
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 6 large cooking apples (such as Granny Smith), peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup Kahlua liqueur
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Sugar and melted butter to taste
Preparation method
Prep: 25 mins | Cook: 55 mins1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F and grease a 9-inch pie plate with butter.
2. To make pie crust, blend 1/3 cup flour and water into a paste in a small bowl.
3. Combine remaining flour, sugar and salt in a bowl. Cut in shortening. Add the flour paste and stir into a dough.
4. Roll out the bottom crust, with a diameter of about 10 inches. Place in pie plate. Spread with melted butter. Sprinkle with sugar and pecans.
5. In large mixing bowl, combine apples, Kahlua, brown sugar and flour. Pour into pie shell and dot with butter.
6. Roll out remaining crust. Cut into 1/2-inch strips. Arrange in lattice over apples. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.
7. Bake for 10 minutes, then lower heat to 350 degrees F. Continue to bake for about 40 minutes, until crust is golden and apples are tender. Cool slightly. Serve warm for best flavor.
