John's fudge chocolate pie recipe details
I have made this pie for dinner parties up to 200 people. It is simply the best chocolate pie you’ll ever eat! Top with whipped cream before serving.
Ready in: 4 hours
Ingredients
Serves: 8- 1 (9 inch) frozen pie shell
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup corn starch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 quart whole milk
- 4 egg yolks (room temperature)
- 2 tablespoons margarine, softened
- 2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 pound dark chocolate chips
Preparation method
Prep: 3 hours 30 mins | Cook: 30 mins1. Bake pie shell until golden brown and allow to cool completely.
2. Sift together sugar, corn starch, and salt into a large sauce pan.
3. Combine milk and egg yolks in a separate container.
4. Place sauce pan with sugar mixture on the stove over medium heat.
5. Gradually stir milk and egg mixture into sugar.
6. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil, stirring constantly, for one minute. Remove pan from heat.
7. Stir in margarine and vanilla until completely blended. Stir in dark chocolate chips until completely blended. Pour mixture into baked, cooled, pie shell.
8. Cover pie with plastic wrap to prevent skin from forming on top. Refrigerate 3 to 4 hours or over night.
