Ready in: 45 mins
Ingredients
Makes: 4 cups- 1 large potato, peeled
- 1 quart ice water in large bowl
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1/4 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
- Vegetable oil for deep-frying
Preparation method
Prep: 10 mins | Cook: 5 mins | Extra time: 30 mins, soaking1. If you have a mandolin, set it to very thin and slice the potato. You can also use your potato peeler to create shaves of potato. As you cut, keep the shaves in the ice water. Let the potato rest in the water for 30 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, combine the paprika, garlic salt, sugar, and onion powder in a bowl and heat the oil in a deep fryer or a very deep skillet to 375 degrees F.
3. Remove the potato shaves from the ice water and dry with a paper towel or two. Then, in batches, deep fry the potato in the oil for about 1 1/2 minutes per batch to brown them.
4. When you remove the chips from the oil, drain on paper towels and sprinkle with seasoning. Voila! Homemade potato chips!
