Helensburgh toffee recipe details
Ingredients
60 g unsalted butter |
450 g caster sugar |
2 tsp golden syrup |
200 ml sweetened condensed milk |
4 tbsp milk |
½ tsp vanilla extract |
Instructions
Melt the butter in a heavy-based saucepan. Add the sugar, syrup, condensed milk and milk. Heat gently until all ingredients have dissolved. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue to heat until the temperature on a confectioners’ or sugar thermometer reaches 115C or 240F, or until a drop forms into a soft ball when dropped into cold water. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Beat well until thick and creamy. Pour into shallow greased tins and mark into squares with a knife. Leave to cool and set. Cut into pieces and store in an airtight container.Preparation time:
