Ham and Asparagus Rolls recipe
|8 slice(s)||lean ham, thinly cut|
|24||canned asparagus spears|
|For the sauce:|
|100 g||freshly grated Cheddar cheese|
|50 ml||liquid from the can of asparagus|
|salt and pepper to taste|
|2 small||tomatoes, halved|
|some||parsley, finely chopped, to garnish|
Place 3 asparagus spears in the centre of each slice of ham and roll it up. Place rolls in a flat ovenproof dish.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan, remove from the heat and stir in the flour to make a smooth paste. Return saucepan to the heat and cook for 3 minutes stirring all the time. Gradually add the milk and the asparagus liquid, stirring constantly. Bring to the boil, stirring until sauce thickens. Mix in the cheese, salt and pepper and pour the sauce over the rolls. Arrange the tomatoes around the rolls.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 10 minutes or until cheese is brown. Garnish with parsley and serve at once.
