Hair of the dog scones recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1 cup raisins
- 3 Tablespoons bourbon (such as Maker’s Mark or Jack Daniel’s)
- 2 teaspoons good vanilla
- 2 cups flour
- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 stick butter, cold
- 1 egg
- 2/3 cup milk
- Raw sugar
Chop raisins and put into bowl with bourbon. Microwave until fairly warm. Let cool and add vanilla. Let sit, covered, overnight.
Mix flour with baking powder and salt. Cut in butter. Beat egg wit milk. Add the milk mixture (reserving about 2 Tablespoons) with the raisin mixture to the flour. Stir together. If dry, add rest of milk or if too wet, add just a bit of flour. This is tricky, as flour can absorb moisture from the air or be extremely dry, depending on humidity. Dough should be about the consistency of a drop biscuit. Drop scones from a large spoon onto a cookie sheet. Flatten slightly and sprinkle tops with a liberal amount of raw sugar. Bake at 400 degrees until well browned.
Makes: 12 large scones
