Gingerbread boys recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup molasses
- 2 Tablespoons vinegar
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2-1/2 teaspoons ginger
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Red cinnamon candies
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Cream together the shortening and the sugar. Stir in the egg, molasses, and vinegar. In a separate bowl, sift together the dry ingredients. Add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Chill dough for at least 3 hours in the refrigerator.
Roll dough out to 1/8-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut out cookies with gingerbread figure cookie cutters and place them slightly apart onto greased cookie sheets. Position red cinnamon candies for eyes, nose, mouth, and buttons onto each cookie. Bake for 5 to 6 minutes or until dough is set but not browned.
Yield: 5 dozen small cookies or 3 dozen larger cookies
