Frosted apple squares recipe details
- Ingredients Pastry:
- 2-1/2 cups flour
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 egg plus enough milk to equal 2/3 cup
- 2/3 cup crushed corn flakes
- Filling:
- 5 cups apples, sliced
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- Glaze:
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 2 Tablespoons lemon juice
Pastry:Combine ingredients into ball. Divide in half. Roll 1/2 out into rectangle to fit into bottom of cookie sheet. Sprinkle pastry with corn flake crumbs.
Filling:Put all ingredients on top of corn flake crumbs. Roll remaining dough to fit over cookie sheet. Place over cookie sheet and seal edges with a little moisture. Brush top with 1 beaten egg white. Bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes.
Glaze:Mix well and drizzle over warm crust.
Serve with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, etc. Excellent for breakfast or an afternoon snack.
