English muffin bread details
- Ingredients
- 5-1/2 cups flour
- 2 packages dry yeast
- 3 Tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 teaspoon soda
- 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 2-1/2 cups warm water
- 4 Tablespoons yellow corn meal
Mix 3 cups of flour, yeast, salt, soda, and cream of tartar. Add warm water gradually using low speed on mixer. Add remaining flour stirring in with a spoon. Grease 2 loaf pans and sprinkle with half of the cornmeal. Divide batter into loaf pans. Sprinkle tops with remaining cornmeal. Cover loosely with plastic wrap. Put in a warm place to rise for 45 minutes. Do not let it rise above the top edge of the pan!! Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes or until the crust is light brown and sounds hollow when tapped. Cool 5 minutes in pan, then remove and cool on racks.
