Eggs ostler recipe details
- Ingredients
- 16 slices of regular sliced bread (decrusted and cubed)
- 3/4 pound mild cheddar cheese (grated)
- 5 eggs
- 1 pint milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 pound melted butter
In buttered 9 x 13-inch baking dish, layer bread cubes, layer cheese alternately until full, ending with layer of bread. (Usually 3 layers of bread cubes and 2 layers of cheese.) Beat eggs, milk, and salt and pour over bread and cheese mixture. Let stand in refrigerator over night (can be frozen). Before baking, cover with melted butter. Bake 45 minutes at 300 degrees. Cover when brown.
