This basic cornbread recipe will give you a good start in the morning. Buttermilk grants a little sweetness to go along with the corn.

Ingredients
Serves: 9- 2 to 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cups self-rising white cornmeal
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 cups buttermilk
Preparation method
Prep: 5 mins | Cook: 30 mins1. Pour oil into skillet, using enough to cover the bottom of the skillet, and place skillet in oven. Preheat oven to 415 degrees F.
2. In a large bowl, mix cornmeal and flour. Add buttermilk and stir until batter is the consistency of thick pancake batter.
3. Remove skillet from oven (it’s hot! Use mitts!) and pour cornbread mix into skillet. Return to oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until brown on top.
