Cocoa cake recipe details
A delicious chocolate cake recipe from my wife’s family. Great with chocolate frosting or whipped cream and berries.

Ingredients
Serves: 16- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup soft margarine
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 eggs, separated
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup sour milk (add 1 teaspoon lemon juice to milk)
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
Preparation method
Prep: 15 mins | Cook: 40 mins1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan. Dissolve baking soda and cocoa in boiling water and let stand.
2. Cream margarine and brown sugar. Add beaten egg yolks. Add cocoa mixture and vanilla.
3. Add milk and flour alternately (start and end with flour). Add remaining dry ingredients.
4. Beat egg whites until stiff. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour batter into prepared pan.
5. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted near the center of the cake comes out clean, about 40 minutes.
