Ingredients
85 g | unsalted butter |
175 g | plain flour, sifted |
1 tsp | baking powder |
¼ tsp | bicarbonate of soda |
1 pinch(es) | salt, optional |
55 g | soft brown sugar |
3 tbsp | golden syrup |
125 g | chocolate chips |
Instructions
Quantity produced will vary according to size.
Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 5, 190ºC, 375ºF. Lightly grease 1 or 2 baking trays.
In a bowl sieve together the flour, baking powder and soda. Rub in the butter. Stir in sugar, syrup and chocolate chips. The mixture should be quite stiff.
Take about a dessert spoon full of mixture and shape into a small ball, transfer to a baking tray and lightly flatten to a disk using the ball of your hand.
Bake for about 15 minutes or until golden. Cool on a wire rack.
Option:
Replace about half the chocolate with a similar weight of lightly toasted and crushed hazelnuts.
