1 cup butter (very soft, nearly melted)
1/2 cup Criscoshortening (very soft, nearly melted)
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in 4 Tablespoons hot water
3 cups quick oats
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt

Thoroughly mix butter, shortening, and white sugar together with electric mixer. Add water and baking soda; mix well. Add flour and salt; mix well.

Roll out to 1/4-inch thick and cut into 3 x 3-inch squares. Put on lightly greased cookie sheets and bake in 375-degree oven for 15 minutes until golden brown.
