Butler squares recipe details
- Ingredients
- 2/3 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup dates (cut up some)
- 1 cup English walnuts (broken)
- 2 egg whites beaten separately
This is another recipe from Mrs. George Seymour’s recipe box. Her mother, Anna Alvira Butler, lived with them from the time of the birth of their first child in 1893 until the time of her death. I assume that this was her recipe because we have been told that she frequently prepared desserts for the families meals even though they had a hired cook in later years.
Mix all ingredients together and add egg whites. Bake in moderate oven and cut into squares while hot.
