Ingredients:
1/2 cup boiling water
1-1/2 cups whole bran cereal
1 cup buttermilk (milk with 1 Tablespoon vinegar)
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup shortening
3 eggs
2 cups sifted flour
1-1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions:

Pour boiling water over bran cereal. Stir in buttermilk. Cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs, beat well. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt.

Mix bran mixture into creamed sugar and shortening. Add dry ingredients. Stir until moistened. Can be stored up to 3 days in tightly covered container in refrigerator.

Fill muffin cups 2/3 full and bake at 350 degrees approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
