Beef and broccoli pie recipe details
Ingredients
pastry for a double crust pie | |
500 g | minced beef |
1 medium | onion, chopped |
2 tbsp | flour |
¼ tsp | garlic salt |
300 ml | milk |
90 g | cream cheese |
1 medium | egg, beaten |
300 g | broccoli |
115 g | Cheddar cheese, sliced |
Instructions
Prepare and roll out pastry and line a pie plate (22cm) with half of the pastry. Trim pastry even with rim of pie plate.Cook broccoli until tender and drain.
Cook beef and onion until browned and onion is tender; drain off fat. Stir in flour and garlic salt and add the milk and cream cheese. Cook, stirring constantly.
Stir about 200 ml of the hot mixture into the beaten egg and return all to skillet. Cook and stir over medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes more; do not boil.
Stir in cooked and drained broccoli.
Spoon the mixture into pastry-lined pie plate and arrange cheese slices on top.
For top crust cut slits in second pastry circle and place pastry atop filling. Seal and flute edge. Brush top with a bit of milk.
Preheat oven to 150°C.
Bake for 30-40 minutes.
Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
