- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder

- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 cup milk

Add milk mixture to flour mixture, toss with fork until moistened. Spread batter evenly in pan. Score batter into 15 squares. Dip finger in flour and make an indentation in the center of each square, being careful not to pierce bottom of dough. Place 1/2 teaspoon apple in each square and cover apple with elderberry jam.
