Apple brown betty recipe details
Ingredients
75 g | butter, melted |
100 g | soft breadcrumbs |
600 g | diced apples |
120 g | brown sugar |
½ tsp | nutmeg |
¼ tsp | cinnamon |
1 tbsp | lemon zest |
2 tbsp | lemon juice |
60 ml | water |
Instructions
Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 5, 190C, 375F.Mix together sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and zest in a small bowl and blend well.
Toss the breadcrumbs in the butter and arrange about one third of the mixture in a greased 3 pint, 1.4 litre casserole dish. Cover with half the apples and half of the sugar mixture. Add a second third of the crumbs on top of the apple and add the remaining apple and add the remaining sugar mixture.
Mix the lemon juice with the water and pour that over the apples and sugar. Top with remaining crumbs.
Cover and bake for for about 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 30 minutes or until the apples are tender.
To serve, top with whipped cream and a little cinnamon sprinkled over the top, or with ice cream.
