Apple Brown Betty Deluxe recipe
- 8 to 10 Granny Smith apples
- 1 box honey graham crackers, crushed
- 2 sticks butter
- Hard Sauce:
- 1 box confectioners’ sugar
- 1 stick butter, softened
- Generous dash brandy
- Generous dash lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Our friend Frank Meehan always made this “Brown Betty” when we had dinner with them. It was my favorite. Now at our farm with our own apple trees, I make it myself. It’s rich and delicious.
Slice and sugar apples; refrigerate 1 hour. Brown cracker crumbs in butter. Butter a 1-1/2 to 3-quart casserole dish. Alternate apples and crumbs, ending with crumbs. Dot with butter. Bake at 350 degrees, covered, for 45 minutes and uncovered for an additional 20 minutes. Serve with hard sauce.
Hard Sauce: Beat sugar, butter, brandy, lemon juice and vanilla together until light and smooth.
