Ingredients
42 g | brown mustard seeds |
½ tbsp | plain flour |
120 ml | water |
90 ml | distilled white vinegar or white wine vinegar |
2 ¼ tsp | salt |
¼ tsp | turmeric |
2 pinch(es) | sugar |
2 pinch(es) | paprika |
Instructions
Unlike English mustard, it is cooked and has other spices added. It is the sauce for hotdogs but is mild enough for almost anything.Grind the mustard seeds in a spice mill, coffee grinder or a blender. Pour the ground seeds into a saucepan. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil while stirring constantly, Reduce heat and simmer gently for about 5 minutes.
Cool to room temperature and store in sterilised jar or other lidded container.
To sterilise glass jar; place in preheated oven on low heat for about 5 minutes. Remove and allow to cool. Sterilise lid by pouring in boiling water and leaving for about a minute. Discard water and shake dry. If using a plastic container, make sure it is heatproof and fill with boiling water and leave for 5 minutes. The lid can be treated in the same manner.
