Ingredients

500 g flour
½ tsp salt
3  eggs
120 ml milk
1 tsp treacle
1 pinch(es) ground cloves
1 pinch(es) cinnamon
1 pinch(es) cardamom
1 pinch(es) freshly ground nutmeg
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
175 g soft butter
175 g sugar
200 g dried fruit of your choice, diced
soft butter for the cake form

Instructions

In a bowl, combine the baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, sugar, spices and salt. Sift in the flour. Knead in the eggs and the butter until the dough is well combined.

In a small saucepan dissolve the treacle in the lukewarm milk. Stir the mixture into the dough. Add the fruits and mix well.

Preheat the oven to 190°C. Spoon the dough into a buttered cake form and bake the cake for about 1-1.5 hours.
